Magne Velure, former Director at the Norwegian Ministry of Culture.

Available for R&D projects as well as evaluation processes, especially in and for museums, and projects related to the UNESCO Convention regarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003 Convention) and The Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005 Convention).

  • During the years 1972-1993 curator and director at different museums of cultural history in Sweden and Norway.
  • As Director of the museum Maihaugen, The Sandvig Collections, I established the Norwegian Crafts Development in 1988.
  • In 1994-96 I worked full time as Chairman of a governmental commission which prepared a comprehensive national report on museums (1996) in Norway. I wrote the report.
  • During the years 1996-1999 Senior adviser in the Norwegian Ministry of Culture
  • 1999-2001: Director General for Lillehammer University College
  • I joined the Ministry of Culture again in September 2001 as Director for a building project of the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo. The actual building process started early in 2014, and the new building of 54 000 sqm will be finished 2019-2020.
  • Chairman of the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO 2000-2004
  • Member and/or chairman of different boards for research programmes of the Research Council of Norway. Recently: board member of the programme “Assigning Cultural Values”.
  • Member of an international committee, assessing Swedish museums: Museum of Ethnography, The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities and The Museum of Mediterranean and Near East Antiquities (1997).
  • Member of an evaluation committee, assessing candidates to a professoriate of museology at the University of Umeå in Sweden (2000).
  • Responsible for several government reports to the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget). Relevant examples:
  • Report on policies and measures for artists (1997),
  • Report on policies for archives, libraries and museums (1999),
  • Report on 2008 as the Norwegian Year of Cultural Diversity (2006).
  • Contributor to several other reports: cultural policies towards 2014 (2003), libraries (2009), digital heritage (2009) and museums (2009).
  • Responsible for the process and documents resulting in the Act on the Obligation of Public Authorities to support and provide for Cultural Activity (The Culture Act), which entered into force on 1 August 2007.
  • Extensive experience regarding the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and The Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
